Healthy Eating in Edmund Rice College

After extensive research by pupils, staff and parents a whole school Healthy Eating policy was devised.

As part of this policy we have issued a whole school ban on fizzy drinks and nut products.

We would ask all parents, pupils and staff to support this policy and to ensure that these products are not brought into the school.

Canteen

In November the canteen took part in the National School Meals Week. We had a ‘western’ theme day and a ‘get traditional’ day. Every December the canteen hosts a Traditional Christmas lunch with all the trimmings.

This March there are plans to host a St Patricks day theme whereby stew, champ, various breads, green water, etc will be on the menu.

Drugs/ Alcohol/Substance Abuse/Smoking

Drugs and alcohol education is delivered through a number of subjects; Personal Development, Science, Learning for life and work and Religion.

Throughout the school year various speakers are invited to speak to the pupils e.g. Francis from Contact Youth, and Brian Herron from the PSNI.

The teaching staff have completed an alcohol and drug awareness course as part of their staff training.
