Hello Summer!

26th Jun 2020

Good afternoon everyone.

Today marks the end of our school year for remote learning. Our staff will spend two days next week preparing for the next academic year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our staff, parents, guardians and pupils for their phenomenal efforts over the past few months.

We all had to adapt to a new way of working, but we did so with the togetherness that epitomises our school community. Thank you to all our parents and pupils for engaging so well with our remote learning provision. We have been overwhelmed with your support and are very proud of you all.

The responses from the parental questionnaire have been invaluable in helping us prepare for next year. We have listened and whilst we are very proud of our provision, we also appreciate that we can get better. We are always seeking to improve and we have big plans for next year if we move to some form of blended learning.

Plans include each pupil having their own individual classroom for their subject allowing for that interaction between teacher and pupil. We also want to improve that connection as relationships are the bedrock of our school. To that end, there will be more audio and visual instruction.

Staff have spent the past two weeks getting trained in preparation for this. Their commitment and work ethic has been incredible and whilst it is something I have always known, I can’t thank them enough!

Our current Year 8’s will receive their end of term Pastoral Reports in the post over the next few days. It has not been the end to your first year that any of us would have envisaged but fortunately we have many more years in ERC ahead of us!

For our incoming Year 8 pupils, your welcome booklet and information for next year will be emailed out by the end of next week. We can’t wait to welcome you to Edmund Rice College.

A letter for the rest of our school community (Years 8-13), outlining some of our plans for next year will be sent in the post on Monday. This is, of course, subject to change based on DE guidelines.

June is a month we all love in Edmund Rice College. The staff room buzz is always evident and the smiles and laughter of our pupils fill the school, knowing that another year of success is coming to an end.

We have missed that and the opportunity to say goodbye. However, we look forward to welcoming you all back in September!

Have a great Summer,

Take care,
Mr Berne.
