Happy Friday from Mr Berne

22nd Jan 2021

Good afternoon everyone. Happy Friday!

I hope our entire school community are healthy, safe and well.

The third week of remote learning has come to an end. Well done to all our pupils, parents and guardians for another great week of engagement and most importantly learning.

Home schooling can be extremely difficult and we set you the challenge of trying your best to get up at a reasonable time and getting into the routine of completing work each day according to your timetable.

All we ever ask in Edmund Rice College is that you do your best, and as always you have risen to the challenge! We are so proud of our pupils for embracing the work that has been set for you.

We are very thankful to all our parents and guardians for providing the support at home and as always we are grateful to our staff for their dedication. Great week all round! Now, switch off the laptops and enjoy a well-earned rest over the weekend.

There have been many highlights this week. The pupils have submitted top class work in a range of different subjects. I was hugely impressed to see the outstanding Art work being carried out at home as well as our pupils working on their creative skills with their dishes for Home Economics.

The collage work provided by our KS3 pupils for a Geography task of ‘outside in winter’ was phenomenal. Lockdown is a great time to try and develop your talents and skills and it has been great to see our pupils dedicate some time to that. Well done!

I was delighted to hear the news this week that Edmund Rice College has been awarded ‘The Spirit of Catholic Education Award 2021’ with Distinction.

I thank all our families for their role in this as we were commended for our very close links and active partnerships with our families and local parish.

This award is a tremendous honour for the College and is a fantastic reflection of the hard work put in by our pupils, staff and entire school community.

Our school community is so important to us and in the absence of a face to face community hub, we’d like to continue supporting you throughout this time when support is needed more than ever.

Our vision of Care in the Community is a key part of our ethos and the idea is to create an online community hub for you, and we need your help.

We would be grateful if you could spend a few minutes and complete the questionnaire by following the link below – tell us your thoughts and what you’d like to see made available to you as a community.

As you know, wellbeing is at the forefront in Edmund Rice College. This week on Wellbeing Wednesday, we were joined by one of our parents, Niamh Cullen who gave us some tips on living holistically and demonstrated some reflexology techniques. I hope you enjoyed it!

We cannot stress enough the importance of our pupils and families finding a balance over the next few weeks and ensuring that they look after their physical and emotional health. Mrs Ritchie has some great Wellbeing Wednesday initiatives lined up for the next few weeks to help us all with that goal.

If you require any support or guidance, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Have a great weekend. We will be ready to start another successful week on Monday morning. See you all then!

Look after each other.

Take care,

Mr Berne.
