Technology and Design

Technology and design is intended “to enable all pupils to become confident and responsible in solving real life problems, striving for creative solutions, independent learning, product excellence and social consciousness”.
It is a practical and technical subject that is highly regarded throughout industry. The subject provides a strong base from which a wide range of careers can be accessed from engineering to construction.

The course is divided into four main areas

• Designing
• Communicating
• Manufacturing
• Using energy and control

Four Energy and Control specialist options are available for higher tier candidates

• Computer/Microprocessor Systems and Control
• Electronic systems
• Mechanical Systems and Control
• Pneumatic Systems and control

Assessment will consist of one examination paper worth 40% and two course work activities:

Activity 1 is worth 10% (the focused tasks)
Activity 2 is worth 50% (the design project)
